Vulcan Oil Company, Inc. has successfully operated in the state of Alabama since 1968. The company was formed by four families, of which the Armstrong and Patton families remain the current owners. The company currently distributes gasoline, diesel, and kerosene fuels to over 140 customers primarily throughout Central and North Alabama. Our customer base consists of convenience stores in urban and rural areas of the state. The company desires to continue to grow in our established markets, as well as, add some presence in south Alabama and the panhandle of Florida.
Vulcan provides customers with superior and well recognized petroleum brands to operate with such as Chevron, Texaco, Exxon, Mobil, and Citgo. Our Customer Account Managers work hard with these companies to offer our customers marketing tools to enhance their overall business performance. We are also proud to be able to provide our customers with an alternative to a branded site in the form of our own Vulcan Brand. Operating under this image, allows our customers to compete well in the unbranded marketplace. The company’s unbranded suppliers include Marathon, Valero, Allied, Hunt and Flint Hills.
In the last decade, Vulcan began to operate convenience stores directly. We currently operate three convenience stores in the greater Birmingham area and one in Decatur. This has allowed us to expand our business further into the retail side of gasoline marketing.
Vulcan currently has a very strong and experienced management and customer support team in place. This group of five key team members has a combined total of over 50 years with Vulcan and over 75 years in the petroleum marketing industry.
I began my time at Vulcan with an initial emphasis on environmental compliance issues related to underground storage tanks. I added equipment maintenance and capital project management to my duties shortly thereafter. I have since overseen significant growth in the volume of fuel distributed by the company along with several multisite acquisitions. I have also been able to secure new branded supply contracts with ExxonMobil, ChevronTexaco and other major suppliers in this area. I currently spend a significant amount of time working with our branded suppliers in implementing new brand initiatives, as well as, adding additional branded business. I enjoy working with our customer account managers to provide timely and competent service to our large network of dealers in order to help them reach their full potential in regards to the fuel business.
As the newest member of the management team at Vulcan Oil, I have over 20 years of financial, accounting and management experience in the oil industry. Among my core responsibilities are the oversight of the accounting functions, ensuring the integrity and presentation of our financial statements, and directing the capable staff that support and serve our customers. Prior to my tenure in the oil industry, I spent over 10 years managing the compensation and benefits department of a large Knoxville, TN company, which serves me well as I manage the payrolls and benefits at Vulcan. I am driven to use my experience and the resources available to me to ensure that both Vulcan Oil and our large number of diverse and hardworking customers are as profitable as possible.
I have worked in the petroleum transportation industry for over 25 years. I have been the Transportation Manager at Vulcan since 2006. My responsibilities at Vulcan include scheduling deliveries, managing prices, hiring drivers and overseeing our truck fleet. I also work with both the branded and unbranded suppliers in regards to product availability and allocation. I recently began working with one of our supplier partners in regards to our pipeline transportation business.
